LEJOG 11 Sep : Lost Gardens of Heligan

The Mud Maid

A rest day already! The far south west is a long way from home so it would have been silly to spurn the chance of visiting the gardens. A half hour walk along the route we failed to find last night took us from our Airbnb through the campsite to the cafe where we enjoyed a cooked vegetarian breakfast before entering the extensive site, the largest garden restoration project in Europe. It’s hard to imagine its ruinous overgrown state before the years of hard work created a wonderful garden and major tourist attraction.

In the afternoon we walked to Mevagissey, one of the many Cornish fishing villages that are so popular with tourists. There were few dinner options so we settled for pizza and walked back. A relaxing day, warm and sunny.
