LEJOG 12 Sep : Pentewan to Tintagel

The Camel Trail

The plan was to leave early, get to the Eden Project for 10, and ride to Tintagel in the afternoon but we decided to give it a miss rather than rush a visit and leave unsatisfied. We faffed about so much that we didn’t actually leave our accommodation until 10. We weaved our way via NCN3 to St Austell, quite a sprawling place, and found a Costcutter on the way out for lunch provisions.

We had only 32 miles to ride but much of it was on hilly and extremely minor roads with some off-road riding. We enjoyed a long section on the Camel Trail which ate up the miles more efficiently, after which the last few miles were hard. We’d gone this way to spend a night at Michael House, a vegan guest house but we’re starting to wonder if it would be worth the pain of the hills. Tomorrow is a worry, sixty miles to Barnstaple with heavy rain forecast.

Today’s distance: 32.9 miles (53 km)
Today’s ascent: 789 metres
Cumulative: 92 miles (148.2 km), 2222 metres
