The earliest start of the holiday for the 06:10 to Warsaw, arriving 14:00. We needed reservations, which I’d bought online in Vienna, and settled into our comfortable compartment. The train number changes from Eurocity EC108 to Intercity IC108 at the border, which confused the interrail rail planner into listing it as a four minute change of trains at Chalupki. The scenery was unremarkable.
We stayed at SuperApart Okrzei, a two bedroom apartment at the equivalent of £157 for two nights. We hadn’t bought any zloty cash, credit cards were accepted everywhere.
Distance walked: 4.89 miles, Train miles: 410 (660 km)
On Tuesday, the first day of April, we took the lift to the observation platform of the Palace of Culture and Science, commisioned by Joseph Stalin during the Russian occupation and completed in 1955 when it was the eighth tallest building in the world.
