Interrail : pass day 7

Gdansk

We left Warsaw  on the 09:00 to Gdansk, arriving on time at 12:05. This gave us an extra half day in the city but with heavy rucksacks to burden us. Close by the station is Fort Góry Gradowej, a well preserved fortification with panoramic views of the city. First, we ate our sandwiches in the warm sunshine. We walked to the splendid Apartament Brabank Green Elegant, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, equipped and furnished to a very high standard at 906.53 zł (£181) for two nights.

Distance walked: 8.57 miles, Train miles: 224 (360 km)

We were very impressed with Gdansk’s beautifully restored buildings and regretted not having another night in the lovely apartment and a visit to nearby Gdynia. Our accommodation was close to the Museum of the Second World War where we spent an absorbing couple of hours, It’s huge, really well thought out and laid out, with enough material to devote a full day, but too intense for more than a couple of hours.

I’d received shoals of emails from our aaccommodation providers but during the evening I suddenly realised I’d heard nothing from tomorrow’s since mid March. I checked the reviews on booking.com again. Up until February they were very positive but the last two, from March, were worrying. The authors had been told on the afternoon of arrival that it was unavailabe and given an alternative address which proved to be of poor standard. The owner didn’t answer my phone call so I emailed, no reply before we went to bed.

Distance walked: 8.9 miles
