Valledemossa

Today’s target was Palma but we only made it as far as Valledemossa. The morning was relentlessly uphill amongst the roadies, including some national teams on training rides with light bikes and vehicle support. We rode through the Tramuntana mountains with spectacular views and through two tunnels. In Soller we saw the tram to Port de Soller, in a few days we would be on it.

We cycled along the hilly coast road, enjoying the sea views, and through the pretty village of Deia where Robert Graves lived. We reached Valledemossa at 18:00, only an hour before sunset, and the earlier sunshine had given way to cold damp grey gloom. Rather than risk being stranded in the dark, we found a hotel for the night. It’s an attractive village, popular with tourists, and we enjoyed wandering round before eating at a pizza place.
