At the beginning of the week, this was the day we’d pencilled in for the ascent of Ben More, the highest point on Mull and our first munro, which we climbed during our honeymoon week. The weather forecast now showed rain for the mountain but dry with some sunshine elsewhere so we rode back to Ulva Ferry and on a bit further to a waterfall. We lunched in the community building, opened only in February and spoke to the architect, who was visiting to check all was well and take photos. The funding process had taken years. We considered whether it was worth one of us shelling out for the £8 ferry fare to pop over to Ulva for cake, decided against it and carried on.
Lots of birders were driving between parking spots in search of otters. We spoke to one couple who’d driven to Bristol airport, flown to Glagow and hired a car to drive to Mull, not exactly sustainable travel. We encountered some light rain on the way back, Ben More had been shrouded in thick cloud all day.
