Our first wet day and our first cold one. We left at 09:45 on what was still an enjoyable ride even in the rain. The road ascended gradually for several miles then a long gradual descent and a slightly steeper rise, easy cycling despite the return of the west wind. I’d have taken more photographs had it been dry.
The sun came out for our picnic spot, on a bench near the start of the Edinburgh hinterland but soon after continuing we were treated to some heavy showers. The road was busy with a poorly patched up surface but as we neared the city there were segregated bike lanes, and then a long easy stretch along an old railway line with a good surface.
The run into South Queensferry was mainly on traffic free paths and we reached the Premier Inn just after four. We met friends for dinner in the evening, good to catch up after not seeing them for many years.
