Mount FitzRoy looked gorgeous in the early morning sun as we rode round the corner for the 08:00 bus to El Calafate. For the only occasion this holiday, we had an awkward bus driver who insisted we removed both front wheels even though the complete bikes would easily have fitted in the luggage space.
After refitting them, we went in search of accommodation which was surprisingly easy, a double room in the HI Calafate Hostel at $1000 including breakfast, not too expensive for a tourist town in Argentina. Then we looked round the city, bought food for tomorrow’s picnic and indulged in ice cream at a heladeria.
At the hostel, we booked a coach trip to the Perito Moreno glacier for tomorrow.
