Day hike from Strbske Pleso

Skok waterfall

A perfect mountain day, sunny and fresh. A popular and well marked path took us to the waterfall, melted snow tumbling down the cliff. There were two hazards on the way, first a flooded area where you had to either risk falling off the stepping stones or walk on bobbing tree pieces around the outside while holding on to branches for stability. Christine chose the former strategy, I the latter and we both avoided embarrassing ourselves. The second was over a patch of packed snow. The path continues past the waterfall but is closed until mid June. We weren’t equipped for such a hike anyway.

On our return we visited the large tarn which gives the resort its name and enjoyed the sunshine outside a cafe with cake and drinks. There were two draught taps in the cafe, the ubiquitous Pilsner Urquell and Kofola which I’d seen advertised so gave it a try. It wasn’t beer, click on the link to find out what it is. It was pleasantly refreshing after a long walk and the poppy seed cake was good too.
