We left at 09:30, cycling through the pretty Essex village of Finchingfield. The dark clouds and dampness contrasted with yesterday’s bright sunshine. We stopped in the city centre and bought some wonderful 100% rye German bread and some Coquetdale cheese from market stalls. This formed our lunch. It’s an excellent market, there’s nothing like it back home. We rode out to Tom and Chris’s house, friends from university whom we’d not seen for a number of years, so it was good to meet again. Later we met our daughter Sarah in the city. She’s working in Cambridge for the summer and came back with us for dinner at the house.
