We left home late morning and were amazed how busy Llanberis was, crowds around the narrow gauge railway termini and busy roads. Last year when we rode through the village it was very quiet. Then it was cool, windy and wet, this time it was hot and sunny, but there was still a stiff breeze funneling down the pass to impede our progress on our heavily laden bikes. We stopped at the lovely Caffi Gwynant cafe in Nant Gwynant, formerly the Bethania chapel, for a well deserved carrot cake and coffee. We pressed on through Beddgelert, past Penrhyndeudraeth and over the toll bridge (no charge for bikes), this road busier than I’ve seen it before.
We headed inland over the moors on a lovely narrow but very hilly Lon Ardudwy in the heat of the afternoon, eventually dropping down to the sea where we rode along the main road until we found a suitable campsite near Dyffryn Ardudwy.
