Afternoon ride

We booked another two nights here and for a glacier excursion tomorrow. It’s an expensive trip and the weather forecast is for more rain but the alternative is another day mooching about and we want to make the most of our time away. In the afternoon I rode 13km down the Carretera Austral towards Cochrane while Christine rested her knee. I met three US cyclists on an epic ride from Tierra del Fuego to their home in the north-east near the Canadian border, two months into what they expect to be a year long ride.

On my return, a couple who’d been trying to hitch a lift on the edge of town on my way out were still there. We now have a plan, to return to Villa Cerro Castillo then ride to Chile Chico and over the border into Argentina for a bus to El Calafate, hoping she’ll be sufficiently recovered for some gentle cycling by then.

First we have to get to to Villa Cerro Castillo and this is not an easy town to leave.
