Christine’s birthday but again we awoke to heavy rain, eventually we forced ourselves out into the wet, hard going on the hills to Caersws clad in full waterproof gear. Here the Feast of Food shop and cafe was a welcome surprise in such a small village, the coffee and chocolate cake being very welcome.
Our next stop was the railway at Llanfair Caereinion where we were lucky to see 822 being prepared for its third and last trip back to Welshpool. A friendly line, one of the staff advised us on the route ahead even though we were non travellers. We did of course patronise the cafe. Resolving to return one day for a ride, we pressed on to Llyn Vyrnwy, very tired by now after a hilly ride. There was a very basic camp site with nothing apart from a lavatory, aimed at caravanners with their own facilities. Not wanting to risk finding anything better in the village, we stayed here.
