Marooned in Tortosa

The section we missed.

The thunder had returned by morning, and still torrential rain, not forecast to moderate until the afternoon. The via verde finished in Tortosa but the weather thwarted our ambition to reach the sea, leaving us 28km short of a true coast to coast.

We weren’t sure if there’d be any travel disruption but Google showed earlier trains as having departed so when the rain eased, we checked out and rode to the station where we found that actually no trains had run and nothing was scheduled until late afternoon. Other travellers arrived, not sure what to do, then a young German couple with bikes, heading for Valencia for onward travel to Morocco. The departure board changed to indicate no trains would run for the rest of the day, upon which they decided to uncheck in, as did we.

Tortosa

I’d messed up my interrail pass by entering the train details at the hotel, using a travel day. The chatbot and human alternative at interrail were useless, I was told to contact them tomorrow and they’ll try to help, fobbed off basically.

After a drink at the Parador bar, we walked into the city, where we found little of interest. I was tired after being kept awake by the thunder, so we settled for pizza in the bar again. A boring day, simply waiting to be able to move on.
