We didn’t get away until after eleven, the initial section to Beddgelert being fast and familiar. After yesterday’s heavy rain, we appreciated the warm sunshine and stopped at Gelert Ices in Beddgelert to cool us down. The roads were annoyingly busy with motorbikes, mid May between the Bank Holidays used to be quiet even at weekends.
We stopped by Llyn Mair near the Oakley Arms for a late lunch, then along a lovely old road which joined the main road soon after passing a beautiful old stone bridge with refuges incorporating seats. The cycling was slow thereafter, as we climbed up to Llan Ffestiniog and along a B road over the moorland. Where this met the A road into Bala near Llyn Celyn, we took the old road into the town, the undulations being gentler now.
We found our self catering apartment, being able to cook was very useful as we had food that otherwise would have been wasted. We had to buy a couple of items from the Co-op though, where the Beautiful South’s Carry On Regardless ditty entertained me while I shopped.
