We were up at 06:15 to prepare for our departure, leaving home at 08:30 for a drizzly ride to Bangor station. We had an hour and a quarter to kill before our Virgin Pendolino so we sat outside the cafe in the chill with the bikes while rough but smartly dressed racegoers were lubricating thamselves with alcoholic refreshments while awaiting their connection to Chester.
The Pendolino was lightly loaded and the journey was pleasant, changing at Glasgow Central for the 45 minute local train to Ardrossan South Beach. Our B&B was a short ride away, after a shower we walked to the Motherland Spice Indian restaurant for dinner. One of our better Indian experiences with a vegetarian section on the menu.
We were actually in Saltcoats, which adjoins Ardrossan. It has an interesting history which we read about on information displays during our walk back. We went to bed early but we were disturbed by loud music from the Hip Flask cafe bar opposite which continued until about 01:30
