The ascent of Schiehallion

Another very windy day so it was lucky that Christine’s ankle was fully recovered to allow us a day off cycling. After breakfast we walked a mile or so along the road from the guest house then up a track before striking off for Schiehallion. The wind assisted us uphill while blowing rain clouds towards us. Just as we thought we were almost at the top, the real rocky summit revealed itself. Having clambered up, it was too windy to linger so we forced our way back against the wind over the large rocks to reach the easy descent down springy grass.

The rain clouds veered off so we just felt a light spray from the edge, then we were back on the track for the return to the guest house. We made ourselves a hot drink then out for a stroll and an examination of the grey choppy water of Loch Rannoch. Dinner comprised vegetable soup, butterbean squash risotto with a basic salad, followed by peaches and cream.
